From 1989 - 1993 Jon built up an impressive collection of 12” records yet he still had no intention of becoming a DJ himself – he just loved the music. 95% of his collection was House music, the other 5% included hip hop, r&b and disco re-presses. Jon was extremely lucky in having one of Cornwall’s finest independent record shops on his doorstep – Saffron Records in St.Austell. Kevin the manager provided Jon with the week’s best releases, as well as the hottest new promos direct from the record companies. Jon’s collection soon became second to none and when he moved to Bath to attend University, bigger things were just around the corner…

In 1993 House music was becoming a major business. Super-Star DJs were being born in the shape of Judge Jules and Carl Cox who were emerging from the pirate radio and rave scenes. If you wanted to be a House DJ, you had to be able to mix.Yet Jon had never heard of
mixing. The concept of merging 2 records together had never even occurred to him. But whilst tuning in to Pete Tong’s Essential Selection he heard a John Digweed hotmix and it blew Jon away…
